Briar has an extensive performance history with the Indonesian gamelan ensembles Gamelan Padhang Moncar (Javanese) and Gamelan Taniwha Jaya (Balinese) at the New Zealand School of Music in Wellington. Indonesian music holds a deep place in Briar’s artistic journey, as it was her first opportunity to study complex vocal traditions from another culture under the guidance of master instrumentalist and vocalist Budi Putra.

Briar joined these ensembles in 2011 and performed extensively with them until 2018, when she relocated to Greece, appearing regularly in local performances as well as at major festivals, including WOMAD. During this time, her vocal abilities developed significantly, alongside a growing passion for live performance. A major highlight came in 2013, when the ensembles undertook a three-week tour of Indonesia, performing traditional repertoire and presenting original works from their album Naga. This album features original compositions for Javanese and Balinese gamelan written by ensemble members, including three works by Briar. Notably, the Balinese ensemble Gamelan Taniwha Jaya also collaborated with renowned electronic band Minuit at WOMAD.​​

Briar now continues her connection with this music through occasional guest vocal appearances with Gamelan Padhang Moncar.
